Liu Danzhai (Born 1931)
Born in Wenzhou of Zhejiang province in 1931, Liu Danzhai held his solo art exhibition when he was merely 10 years old. The exhibition included 70 paintings of folk stories, birds, animals and flowers. It was quite impressive and the community hailed him as child prodigy. In 1951, he worked in a publication house and concentrated on illustrations, caricatures and traditional Chinese paintings. He studied old masters works from Song, Ming and Qing dynasties. He has travelled with Lu Yanshao (1909-1993) and learned poems and calligraphy as advised by Lu. Liu specialized in figure, horse, flowers and birds as subject matters. He had been Professor of Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy Painter and member of Chinese Artists' Association.
